About my project

Collecting data in the archives of the National Library “Radosav Ljumović” in Podgorica. In front of me is the Official Gazette of the Socialist Republic of Montenegro (1990)

As a political scientist with an interest in party and electoral systems, I noted during my research that most of the currently available free datasets on elections do not contain detailed, historical, and complete data on parliamentary, presidential, local, and federal elections held in Montenegro from 1990 up to the present. This lack of data results in many researchers drawing conclusions on the voting patterns or party system characteristics in Montenegro based on just two to three electoral cycles and usually focusing on the parliamentary elections during the period 2009-2012.

In order to fill in the gap, I decided to conduct an extensive collection and study of archival material on elections in Montenegro with an aim to provide scholars, policymakers, and other interested individuals with precise and comprehensive electoral data for the case of Montenegro. I spent hundreds of hours during the time period from 2019 to 2022 searching the local archives, academic literature, official publications, and, of course, drinking coffee and working on my laptop (I started preparing the project during the final year of my MA studies at CEU in 2019). In the end, I managed to prepare the most comprehensive database on elections in Montenegro that exists – and completely free of charge! I keep updating the database whenever I can, with the latest update to the whole project being launched in December 2025, when I switched to a new hosting plan (the old one was expiring).

What’s the catch? There is none, really. The project reflects my dedication to the never-ending academic pursuit of the truth about the World that surrounds us and my love for political science research. I will continue to provide the database for free as long as I can find some resources to maintain the website hosting subscription.

It might not be perfect, but you are invited to help me make it better. Therefore, any help or support is highly appreciated!

Thank you for visiting!

Note: I do not endorse or have any links with any political party or political entity in Montenegro, nor is this project endorsed by any political entity, nor do I plan to change this. The project is purely scientific in its nature and goals.
